The Classroom

Catering the classroom to the creative gifted mind

The Classroom

Student Working

Our classrooms in the gifted program are built to cater to every need of a gifted student. Students will have their own individual desks for those who enjoy solo work, or desks can be easily be moved together to group up for different projects or group work. For larger group projects, as well as for art and other experiments and activities we will have larger half-circle tables that can be moved as needed to accommodate different sized groups. We chose circle tables over other shapes to accommodate any left-handed students so the space is more customizable so they never have to worry about bumping elbows with the righties. In addition, students are never confined to a desk to work as everyone has their own preferred working conditions, so there will be different forms of seating available including wobble chairs, standing desks, and low tables with floor cushions so students will be free to choose where in the room would be the best working environment for them.

Gifted minds are often very creative so our classrooms are stocked to the max with art and craft supplies to allow students to express themselves in a multitude of ways. Technology is also a major focus of our classroom too as gifted minds are insatiably inquiring minds that have a nearly constant need to be fed information. To support their intellectual and educational needs, our classroom will have lots of technology available including laptops, tablets, and a smart board to be used both by the teachers for instruction and for students to complete core work, research, and other projects and activities.

The Spaulding Method of teaching combines a variety of teaching styles to ensure every individual can achieve success. To assist students in their learning endeavors, our classroom stocks a wide assortment of tools to cater to all learning styles (visual, verbal, kinesthetic, etc.) with an emphasis on hands-on learning. To achieve this, students will have access to many educational aids including manipulatives to assist visual learners in math, science equipment for testing hypotheses and doing experiments, and different types of building materials for constructing and testing engineering principles.
